The Strandveld Vineyards team is very proud to announce that the much loved First Sighting Sauvignon Blanc 2017 was awarded a platinum medal and scored 97 points at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards.
Considered by some to be the best wine show in the world, the 2018 competition received just under 17 000 entries from around the world. Only 149 platinum medals were awarded this year of which 5 went to South African wines. To receive a platinum medal, an entry needs to receive a gold medal first. All gold medal winners are then retasted and the top wine in each category is awarded a platinum medal.
“It is an incredible honour for the First Sighting Sauvignon Blanc 2017 to be among this esteemed selection,” says winemaker Conrad Vlok. Vlok describes this Sauvignon Blanc as a wonderfully refreshing wine with a tropical and citrus nose, a full, crisp palate and typically expressive notes of buchu and minerality.
“Enjoy it on its own as an accompaniment to good times with friends and family, or serve it with seafood, pasta or salad.”
The highly respected South African wine writer and judge, Christian Eedes, said the following of this wine: “To score 97/100 at the Decanter Awards and selling for only R80 a bottle in SA must make the Strandveld Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2017 the best value white wine in the world!”
