Steenberg Vineyards in the Constantia Valley has released the latest vintage of its popular Klein Steenberg range.
Responding to demand from the market, the new release comprises of two single varietal wines, Klein Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2011 and Klein Steenberg Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 (replacing the Klein Steenberg Bordeaux style red blend), both of which uphold the quality benchmark of the Steenberg brand, while being accessibly priced and crafted for immediate enjoyment.
“Klein Steenberg wines epitomize a modern and trendy approach to wine, and have been produced in a style that offers convenient early drinking,” says Sales and Marketing Manager, Anetha Homan. “With grapes sourced off the farm, the Klein Steenberg range provides us with the opportunity to expand production volumes. Contemporary and thoroughly enjoyable, Klein Steenberg wines are bottled under screw cap and have been produced primarily for the local market, although they are also exported to the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Austria.”
The Klein Steenberg brand has come into its own since its inception in 2006 and has seen a natural progression in terms of the packaging and labeling of the wines. The earliest labels depicted the Steenberg icon of a lone Spurwing to reflect the romance of the erstwhile name of the farm, Swaaneweide – the feeding place of swans. Following on from there, the packaging evolved with labels that were an interpretation of the eye-catching, abstract collection of Edoardo Villa sculptures which adorn the Steenberg Estate - splashes of bright colour set against a simple white background.
Symbolizing a homecoming of sorts, the new labels portray a single, contemporary design depicting the architectural outline of the Steenberg winery complex. Underscoring this is the byline which urges wine enthusiasts to “capture the moment, live life, have fun!”, encapsulating the exuberant personality of this brand and distinguishing its own, unique identity and sense of place within the Steenberg wine range.
Klein Steenberg wines are available at the cellar and most wine and liquor outlets and restaurants, including Steenberg’s fine dining restaurant, Catharina’s, and its cellar door restaurant, Bistro Sixteen82. Steenberg Vineyards recently gained international recognition for its exceptional contribution to the industry, when it was voted Global Winner Wine Tourism Services in the Great Wine Capitals’ Best of Wine Tourism Awards for 2011.
The Klein Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2011 sells for R45 at the cellar, while the Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 costs R52.
