Rhebokskloof Wine Estate’s flagship wine, the Black Marble Hill Reserve Syrah, has for the third consecutive year walked away with a prestigious international Syrah Du Monde award. The Black Marble Hill Reserve Syrah 2008 secured a Silver Syrah Du Monde award in Ampuis Castle in France.

The Syrah Du Monde 2011 brought together 383 entrants from 24 countries. The competition is one of the world’s top events for syrah/shiraz wines and demonstrates the impressive growth of this varietal since the 1970’s.

This accomplishment by the Black Marble Hill Syrah 2008 is no small feat as strict regulations, compliance and quality assurance requirements are to be met, more so than the norm. Judges looked for wines that displayed good syrah varietal character with well-balanced oak and alcohol levels, as well as intense aroma.

The grapes for the Black Marble Hill Reserve Syrah 2008 were harvested from the Rhebokskloof Wine Estate in the Paarl region in March 2008. The vineyard was planted in 2002 in mostly decomposed granite soil. Balling occurred at 26º B with cold maceration, and fermentation was in stainless steel tanks with regular pump-overs after which there was extended maceration for two weeks. The wine was matured in 225 litre new French Oak Barrels for 20 months.

“We are extremely proud of our flagship Black Marble Hill Reserve Syrah 2008 having secured an award for the third consecutive year at the Syrah Du Monde, and we hope to make it four consecutive years next year,” says Anton Du Toit, Managing Director for Rhebokskloof  Wine Estate.

“This wine confidently reflects bold and generous shiraz styling with dark plum aromas, aromatic spice and black pepper nuances from the oaking.”

The Black Marble Hill Syrah is from the Rhebokskloof ultra-premium reserve range and demonstrates the quality and luxury that is synonymous with the estate. For more information, please visit www.rhebokskloof.co.za or contact 021 869 8386.
