Nederburg’s seductive sweet wines are working their charms across the world with a new set of accolades, this time in the US and South Africa, after winning top scores, trophies and medals on competitive events in France, the UK and Australia.

In the US, the 2011 Winemaster’s Reserve Special Late Harvest earned a score of 93, winning the title of the World Value Wine Competition’s best dessert wine retailing for under U$15 in the annual competition run by the Beverage Testing Institute. The impressive ranking, together with a Best Buy recommendation from the judges, occurred just a few days before Nederburg returned as one of the top producers in the Veritas Awards with four double golds, as well as 12 golds for a range of wines across its multi-tiered range.

Nederburg cellar master, Razvan Macici is also one of the finalists for the 2012 Diners Club Winemaker of the Year Award. For the first time in its history, the award features dessert wines.

The Veritas double gold winners this year were the already highly decorated 2010 Winemaster’s Reserve Noble Late Harvest, which has won several trophies abroad; as well as two other dessert wines, the 2004 and 2008 vintages of Private Bin Edelkeur; and also the 2007 vintage of the Private Bin R181 Merlot. Nederburg’s Private Bin wines sell exclusively on the Nederburg Auction.

The winery also took Veritas gold for its recently released specialty gourmet wine, the 2011 Anchorman Chenin Blanc; the 2010 Grenache made for Woolworths; the 2011 vintage of the Winemaster’s Reserve Special Late Harvest; the 2012 Winemaster’s Reserve Riesling; the limited edition II Centuries Cabernet Sauvignon 2007; the winery’s Solera Potstilled Brandy and a selection of Private Bin Wines. These were the 209 and 2010 vintages of Edelkeur, the 2008 and 2009 Eminence, the 2004 S316 Weisser Riesling Noble Late Harvest and the 2002 Sémillon Noble Late Harvest.

Several of the double gold and gold winners have been decorated at the International Wine & Spirit Challenge, the International Wine Challenge, the Decanter World Wine Awards, Muscats du Monde and the Five Nations Wine Challenge.

Meanwhile, the winery’s 2012 Lyric won the World Value Wine Awards category for best South African “other white wine”, also rating a Best Buy, as well as a silver medal. The 2010 Pinotage also took silver at this event.
