Franschhoek’s Mont Rochelle Mountain Vineyards will once again be participating in the Pick ‘n Pay Taste of Cape Town from 5 to 8 May at the Green Point Cricket Club in Green Point. Mont Rochelle is one of the Cape’s leading wine estates participating in the event, in addition to more than fourteen of Cape Town’s top restaurants that will serve tastings of their signature dishes, to make this a superb event for all food and wine enthusiasts.

Visitors to the Mont Rochelle stand will be the first to taste two of this year’s new vintages, the Mont Rochelle Merlot 2005 and its flagship, the Mont Rochelle Syrah 2006, especially released to coincide with the Taste of Cape Town festival.

With its deep purple colour and enticing hints of mint, peppermint and spice, interlaced with intense black fruits and violets, a tasting of the Mont Rochelle Syrah 2006 will reveal a classic wine with a complex mouth feel of seductive blackberry fruits, spice, and an enticing meatiness. This well-balanced wine shows promise of following in the footsteps of its award-winning predecessors. It sells for R110 at the cellar.

A full-bodied and well-rounded wine, the Mont Rochelle Merlot 2005 portrays nuances of tobacco and dark chocolate, and will be best enjoyed with almost any red meat dish. It sells for R85 at the cellar.

Also available at Taste of Cape Town will be the newly released Mont Rochelle Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2010, a delightful “food wine” with a classic light straw colour, complemented by powerful guava, granadilla, passion fruit and pineapple aromas, with slight herbaceous buchu undertones. This wine sells for R60 per bottle.

Along with this, tastings of the barrel-fermented Chardonnay 2007, Cabernet Sauvignon 2005, the popular red blend Artemis 2007, and the premium MIKO range will also be available at the Mont Rochelle Taste of Cape Town stand.
