The latest release of Middelvlei’s popular, unwooded Chardonnay, the Middelvlei Unoaked Chardonnay 2019, is the perfect wine to enjoy during the warm summer days. And the fact that winemaker Tinnie Momberg regards it as one of his favourites, should make it a must-have for the season of sunshine!
The grapes for this wine were sourced from a cooler west-facing vineyard, planted in 2010.
Momberg says the wine, made from 100% chardonnay, is perfectly balanced, with hints of minerality and a well-integrated acidity. As the wine opens up an abundance of typical citrus and peach fruit flavours, with hints of spice come to the fore. The refreshing mouthfeel holds the promise of a lingering aftertaste, resulting in a crisp wine with an appealing freshness. Ready to drink now, the wine will reach its optimal peak if left in ideal cellaring conditions for the next three to four years.
Enjoy on its own while soaking in the summer rays, chilled, or with light and delicate food such lightly cooked shellfish, steamed or grilled fish, fish pâtés, chicken or vegetable terrines and pasta or risotto with seasonal vegetables.
The the Middelvlei Unoaked Chardonnay 2019 is available directly from the farm at R95 per bottle, as well as from select outlets nationwide.
