If you’re looking for a fresh, vibrant wine that could partner with equal ease a hearty lamb stew and a prawn salad, then try the latest vintage of the Chardonnay Viognier blend from Du Toitskloof Wines.

The 2011 Du Toitskloof Chardonnay Viognier seamlessly combines two of chief wine maker Shawn Thomson’s favourite cultivars. The result is a full-bodied wine in which the structure, acidity and versatility of the chardonnay grapes complement the floral aromas of the viognier.

The wine is extremely food-friendly and although it is already very approachable, the wine will develop complexity and depth if allowed to mature for a further two to three years.

This Chardonnay Viognier displays bright golden-green hues and delicate vanilla and honey flavours from spending 10 months in French oak barriques. The end result is a smooth, creamy wine with aromas of ripe pineapple, citrus, apricot and peach that is the perfect companion to salads, curried prawns, a lamb potjie, chicken or duck livers and smoked Eisbein.

The 2011 Du Toitskloof Chardonnay Viognier is available from fine wine shops and at the cellar and retails for about R55.
