Groote Post, the beautiful and historic wine farm in the Darling Hills owned by Peter and Nick Pentz, has received significant recognition for its recently-released Groote Post Sauvignon Blanc 2012, namely a Top 10 placement at the 2012 FNB Top 10 Sauvignon Blanc Awards and a Gold medal at the 2012 Michelangelo International Wine Awards.

Groote Post’s sauvignon blancs are their biggest sellers and have become synonymous with this historic West Coast farm ever since their highly-rated maiden 1999 vintage Sauvignon Blanc was launched.

Since the first Top 10 Sauvignon Blanc competition six years ago, Groote Post has been honoured with a Top 10 placing four times, the first three going to its Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. The Top 10 Awards Competition was originally launched by Wine Magazine but is now managed by the Sauvignon Blanc Interest Group for FNB, the competition sponsor. The Top 10 does have widespread recognition in the wine industry and among wine lovers alike.

Groote Post’s 2012 Sauvignon Blanc was also awarded a Gold medal at the 2012 Michelangelo International Wine Awards. This well established wine competition attracted 1 495 entrants this year and 14 of the 15 judges were internationally recognised wine personalities. Groote Post Sauvignon Blanc (or their Reserve) has received Gold or Gran D’or (Double Gold) for the past three years running.

Nick Pentz is his usual humble self when commenting on these awards, “It’s gratifying when Groote Post Sauvignon Blancs do well in competitions because it adds affirmation that we are on the right track, quality wise, and, in turn assures our many customers that we are providing good quality wine at these price points. As always we acknowledge the great efforts of our small but dedicated team, guided by our winemaker Lukas Wentzel.”

Winemaker Lukas Wentzel describes the wine, “An explosion of fruit driven by lime, gooseberry and kiwi fruit, and underpinned by a thread of minerality. A lively wine, with intense flavours, that has a long finish, making this a crowd-pleaser for any occasion.”

Food pairing suggestions from Shaun McLaughlin of Hilda’s Kitchen:

·           Apple, walnut and celery salad

·           Roast lemon and herb chicken

·           Passion fruit tart with coconut ice cream

Groote Post Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2012

Groote Post’s Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2012, with an established award-winning pedigree, has also just been released. Stacked with flavours of granadilla, green fig and green pepper, this wine displays the typical Darling minerality that makes this area’s sauvignon blancs stand out. This wine has a full and lingering finish and is a perfect food match. The Reserve Sauvignon Blanc calls for careful selection all along the winemaking path, from the vineyards to the cellar.
