Franschhoek gearing up again for annual Bastille Festival

Yep, it’s time again to don your favourite red, blue and white – and don’t forget the beret! – for SA’s French inspired annual Franschhoek Bastille Festival, in its 25th year, which takes place at the historic Franschhoek Huguenot Monument on 14 and 15 July.

The captivating village of Franschhoek will again be a hive of activities over this weekend, embracing its French heritage and adding to the hype and excitement the weekend has become known for.

Although the valley embraces the French theme to perfection, the Food & Wine Marquee, which is set against the backdrop of the historic Huguenot Monument, is the place to be and be seen. Ample parking on the grounds allow for comfortable walking distance to and from the village.

Sample the superb Franschhoek wines on offer or treat your taste buds to the selection of delicious gourmet fare available to purchase from some of Franschhoek’s many well-known eateries. The quirky caricature artist who captures your Bastille experience, the popular Porcupine Ridge Barrel Rolling Competition and live music add to the elements for a fabulous festival.

Tickets to the Food & Wine Marquee cost R350 (Saturday entry) and R280 (Sunday entry), respectively, and include entry, a complimentary tasting glass, a booklet of five wine tasting coupons and a R20 voucher which is redeemable on the day. Additional coupons can be purchased on the day. As tickets are limited, pre-booking via www.webtickets.co.za is strongly advised. Children under 18 enter for free.

The festival times are 11am to 5pm on the Saturday, and 11am to 3pm on the Sunday. Sunday’s festivities are ideally suited for the whole family with ample fun kiddies’ entertainment for the young ones.
