Fleur du Cap has hauled in the medals at the 2012 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) in the United Kingdom, with the competition’s highest rating of Gold Outstanding awarded to the much lauded Noble Late Harvest 2011.

The IWSC judges also awarded two Silver Outstanding medals to Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Semillon 2011 and the Unfiltered Sauvignon Blanc Chardonnay Semillon Viognier blend, as well as silver medals to a further eight Fleur du Cap wines.

The IWSC is one of the most prestigious competitions of its kind in the world with entries from nearly 90 countries. Founded in 1969, the IWSC aims to promote the quality and excellence of the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs drawing on detailed technical analysis and specialist judging panels.

The 2011 Fleur du Cap Noble Late Harvest is the latest vintage of one of South Africa’s iconic dessert wines with the past five consecutive vintages boasting Platter 5-star ratings. Time will tell whether the 2011 vintage, which wowed the international judges, will follow suit when the awards of South Africa’s definitive wine guide are announced later this month.

A gorgeous blend of chenin blanc (76%), sauvignon blanc (13%) and chardonnay (11%), Fleur du Cap Noble Late Harvest 2011 shows beautiful aromas of raisins and marmalade with whiffs of typical dusty botrytis. Dried apricots and peaches meld with well-balanced acidity on the palate ending in a perfectly gorgeous aftertaste.

This winning wine is crafted at Die Bergkelder by winemaker Pieter Badenhorst, a finalist in the 2012 Diners Club Winemaker of the Year competition with this very wine. The winemaking team is supported by cellarmaster Andrea Freeborough with grapes meticulously selected by viticulturist Bennie Liebenberg.

The Fleur du Cap Noble Late Harvest 2011 will be released during 2013.
