The medium-bodied La Vierge Chardonnay 2011, known as Jezebelle, a wine with a delightful, distinctive and alluring character, is produced from shy-bearing vineyards situated on the Babylon Farm on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge near Hermanus.

Jezebelle is desired by many with her painted, mysterious gaze, treacherous smile, and has had many yearning for her perfumed embrace. The Jezebelle’s nature remains an enigma, and the power of her legend lives undoubtedly on in the La Vierge Chardonnay.

The Jezebelle 2011 is now filtering into stores after ageing in Burgundian barrels for nine months and maturing in the bottle for a further nine months. In addition to this, you can enjoy the wine immediately or you can allow it to age further with the rest of your collection.

“This vintage, compared to the 2010 vintage, is more intense and brighter with a little less oak impact. It has a more floral and stone fruit expression,” says Uschi Van Zweel, General Manager at La Vierge.

“In order to make the wine’s profile more complex and express terrior and clone variation, the vineyards of Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge are situated within close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean with the climate being ‘temperate’ in style”, says Van Zweel. “The profile of the Jezebelle is a reflection of the vines planted on a variation of shale and clay based soils. The wine, therefore, expresses the zip and texture of the clay on the palate, and aromatic lime, white floral and stone fruit, mineral character on the nose.”

All grapes are harvested by hand in nine batches, during early and mid-March in early, cool morning temperatures to capture the perfumed green citrus fruit profile.

The Jezebelle is the perfect wine for any occasion where a creamy and buttery seafood dish is served. Or enjoy it with grilled shellfish and roast poultry.
