Ever thought fortified wine could be the kind of beverage served at the Christmas table, let alone throughout the meal? Think again, for these delicious wines are not only trusted companions during the cold winter months but are equally well suited to summer and indeed the festive season.

Monis, the country’s oldest producer of fortified wines, has a range of true flor fermented wines to accompany any Christmas meal!

The dry, nutty and salty flavours with citrusy undertones of the Monis Pale Dry will be an excellent choice when served ice cold on crushed ice with a selection of olives, almonds, cheeses, sausages such as chorizo and cabanossi, and cured ham as aperitif.

Add the delicious rich raisin, slightly sweet Christmas pudding flavours of the Medium Cream to the juices of your Christmas roast when preparing the gravy for beautiful depth of flavour or make a meal of it and serve with Springbok carpaccio, pan-fried duck breasts or slow braised guinea fowl.

And as a memorable end to the meal, serve the Monis Full Cream with its sweet vanilla, toffee, nuts and honey flavours, ice cold with traditional malva pudding, hazelnut praline ice cream or home-made cashew brittle.

Made from chenin blanc grapes grown in the Stellenbosch area, these wines were inoculated with flor yeast before spending a total of six years in oak barrels. They were then blended before bottling with sweeter wine to create the different styles.

The Monis Pale Dry, Medium Cream and Full Cream are available from leading liquor outlets and retail for about R60 per bottle.
