What has been common practice in Scandinavia for decades, premium wines in a box are still virtually unheard of on our shores. That is all about to change with the release of the three-litre bag-in-box Cape Fynbos Chenin Blanc 2019.
Until now this wine has only been available to consumers in countries like Norway where their most influential wine writer, Ingvild Tennfjord, has repeatedly gushed about it in her columns.
Harvested from unirrigated bush vines, the grapes that produce this generous old vine Chenin Blanc come from five blocks in the Voor Paardeberg and Swartland. After crushing, the grapes are left on the lees for a minimum of six months to enable the wine to develop its broad mid palate, lovely creamy mouthfeel and long finish. This complement the floral and fruity notes in the aroma and palate.
The fynbos renderings on the packaging consist of more than seventeen individually hand-drawn botanical sketches by the brilliant Tertia du Toit.
The Cape Fynbos 2019 Chenin Blanc will be available from November in 150 select Checkers and Checkers LiquorShop outlets countrywide.
